My second stop at The Makeup Show Chicago was the famous Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC)! I had been drooling over lip tar swatches for months and they were a purchase priority. I received a couple of OCC Makeup items in my blogger bag then I went and got some more during the show.
A stunning new innovation in lip color, OCC Lip Tar combines the longevity of a lipstick, with the ease of application of a gloss. Goes on slick and moist, and dries down to a satin finish. Ultra-saturated in color, Lip Tar contains an unprecedented amount of pigment – a little goes a very, very long way! An intense yet featherweight layer of color that stands up to the scrutiny of Hi-Def Video and Digital Photography, without ever looking (or feeling!) heavy. Meant to be mixed, Lip Tar comes in concise array of colors for a limitless selection of shades made by you!
Like all of our products, OCC Lip Tar is 100% Vegan and Cruelty-Free, and is also free of parabens and other harsh preservatives. A simple, elegant formula that contains Hemp Oil, Peppermint Oil and Vitamin E, OCC Lip Tar feels as good on the lips as it looks!
DIRECTIONS: Apply the tiniest bead of Lip Tar with our #009 Angle Brush for complete, opaque coverage, either mixed with other shades or straight out of the tube. Applying too much product can result in feathering/bleeding so remember: a little goes a very, very long way!
First off, let my tell you that David Klasfeld (founder) and the rest of the OCC team have the best customer service skills. I got a chance to chit-chat with David for a few minutes and that man is so humble, warm and personable. You can tell he really cares about his company and believes it’s important to stay in touch with his customers and the makeup community. It is very FEW people and companies I stan for and OCC is one of them. Any company that treats their customers like they do and have so much pride in their products will ALWAYS get business from me.
Lip Tars have the coverage of a lipstick and the look of a gloss; they are basically paint for your lips. Lip Tars are nothing but pigment and I mean NOTHING, a few drops are more than enough to cover your lips. They are kind of runny but I love it because it gives me better control during application and it makes it easy for me to mix colors. I suggest using an angled eye brush to apply. DON’T apply a lip balm before you use these, it’s unnecessary, they are super moisturizing on their own.
The packaging is the only thing that I don’t like about the Lip Tars. Even with a gentle squeeze I find that too much product comes out. (I hate to waste makeup) I’ve also noticed that the ink on the back label with the shade name tends to fade away over time. I HATE THAT! I’m anal about my makeup labels, it’s important for me that I can clearly tell what shade it is. The numbers on some of my MAC brushes fade and I have no idea what the number is. IT DRIVES ME CRAZY! So put a layer of top coat over the name or a piece of tape over the back label so you can tell what you’re using. I heard the tube is smaller than what it used to be, this makes me sad. I would have preferred if they just increased the price than decreased the size. I do wish that they came in a bigger size. It’s more than enough in one tube but if you plan on using them a lot or just want to experiment with making new shades like I do then you might run out before you want to.
I’d love to see OCC’s next Lip Tars be a navy blue, bubble gum pink, teal and forest green! I also had a dream about OCC (pathetic I know) and they had tubes of liquid glitter to mix in the Lip Tars! OMG LIQUID GLITTER! It was silver, gold, multi-color and iridescent tubes of glitter. Oh sweet Jesus I’d die if my OCC dreams became a reality.
I just love these things! My lip tars and Inglot shadows are the favorite things I own right now. I love creative products like this! What you can do with lip tars and the colors you can create are almost limitless. I even bought a paint palette (don’t laugh) to make it easier for me to experiment. I sat down with these and had kindergarten flashbacks of my teacher (Mr. Singleton) dropping a load of paints on the table and telling us to just go for it. David needs to make T-Shirts with “Lip Tar Whore!” on the front and I’d be the first to buy it. I want, no NEED all 39 shades! (Only 32 more to go 🙁 ) I even want backups for some and y’all know I don’t believe in buying backups. Check back in a couple of weeks for a post on my favorite lip tar combos. I’m also going to create a spreadsheet so I can keep track of all the combos I make and I’m even going to attach images so I’ll post a download link of that too.
