I rarely review skincare products on here because a lot don’t wow me and they need a lot of testing time for a comprehensive review. I received a sample of this Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel towards the end of February and I’ve been using it ever since.
Neutrogena introduced their Hydro line a few months ago and it includes this Water Gel, a Gel-Cream for dry skin and a Gel Eye Cream. Each retails for $18.99 but the price really depends on the retailer. I’m sure you can find it cheaper during sales.
Hydro Boost Water Gel instantly quenches dry skin and keeps it looking smooth, supple and hydrated day after day. The unique water gel formula absorbs quickly, like a gel, but has the long-lasting, intense moisturizing power of a cream. It boosts skin’s hydration level and locks it in all day. Naturally found in the skin, hydrating hyaluronic acid acts as a sponge for dry skin cells, moisturizing with up to 1,000 times its weight in water, resulting in more supple and smooth skin.

The first thing that attracted me was the jar, the see-thru ocean blue makes it looks like a prestige product. Where the real magic happened was when I opened it. The gel is a pretty light blue color. Since it’s a gel it’s not thick but it’s not loose enough to drip. It feels wet and is actually cool to the touch. At first I thought it felt cool because it was delivered in winter but even months later it still feels the same. It does have a scent and we know how much I hate facial skincare with scents. It smells very clean and I honestly don’t even mind it, which is a shock. Normally I hate fragrance in skincare so much I toss it.
I scooped up the usual amount I use for other moisturizers but that was a mistake. It was wayyyy too much, I had enough to cover my face, neck and chest. The Hydro Boost spreads something serious, you only need the dip of one finger to cover your whole face. So this 1.7 oz will last a long time. Six weeks later and I still have half left.
This moisturizer promotes just that, moisture. There’s no anti-aging benefits, it won’t even your skintone, doesn’t have SPF and etc….. It’s very hydrating and it absorbs quickly, but not too quickly where you can’t take advantage of the moisture. Since I have dry skin I normally use Charged Water to rehydrate my face before I apply my concealer and foundation, it helps the product spread and it creates a more natural look. What I found is that Hydro Boost does the same thing. It’s great to use with makeup.
After it absorbs my skin felt soft and smooth. Now I did have one problem, that hydrated feeling didn’t last all day long. Like I said earlier I have dry skin so this wouldn’t be the best moisturizer for me in the winter months. Upon writing this review is when I saw the Hydro Boost Gel-Cream for extra dry skin, that’s probably your best bet if you have dry skin. I’m definitely going to pick it up whenever I finish up this jar. One more thing is that I wish this had SPF in it. I won’t be reaching for it in the summer mornings because of that but it’ll be a good nighttime moisturizer.
I do recommend Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel, I love how long it lasts and how soft and smooth my skin looks. It’s perfect for those with normal-oily skin and those that don’t care about those extra skincare benefits.
