Hi beauties! It is officially the best month of the year and my birthday is a few weeks out. So now is the time for me to buy all the things I don’t need and justify it with my birthday.
Last month I got in the Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla collection. I haven’t used Carol’s Daughter products in over 5 years, so I was curious to see how the brand was doing.
They dropped this line to tackle moisture & shine for dry, dull and brittle locks. Ingredients include shea butter, cocoa, aloe, provitamin B5 and a whole bunch of oils and butters. There’s also No Silicones, No Parabens, No Mineral Oil, No Artificial Colors, No Petroleum.
The Sulfate-Free Shampoo was the only product they shocked me. I have REALLY thick hair and I usually do a quick shampoo to break down any dirt or products in my hair then with my second shampoo that’s when it really lathers and penetrates my hair. So with all that I use about 8 pumps of shampoo. With the Black Vanilla shampoo I only needed about 3 pumps. It spreads and lathers really well, better than the other shampoos I’ve tried. I was very impressed.
I do like this conditioner, its lightweight but it’s hydrating. But I really wish they had a heavier deep conditioner in the Black Vanilla line because the Hydrating Conditioner does not make for a good detangling product. Even though it is hydrating it doesn’t give me the slip I need to detangle my 4A hair. I still use it I just use another conditioner after to detangle.
They have this Hair Smoothie but it’s more of a treatment. It’s not heavy good for detangling. Maybe it’ll work better for those with silkier hair or a looser curl pattern.
The Leave-In wasn’t a leave-in that I’m used to. It’s a lightweight spray not a creme. The good part about that is it doesn’t weigh your hair down. It restores moisture as well as strengthens the hair.
This spray sheen provides an instant fix to revive dull hair with shine.
Overall I was happy with the results. I’ve never used any products that had my hair feeling light and soft like this. The only thing I don’t like is the smell of the leave-in and sheen. I hate black licorice so much so I was thrown off by the strong scent of it. The good thing is that the scent fades always quickly, if not I would have discontinued use. All the products are impressively lightweight yet do their job of giving you moisturized, shiny and super soft hair.
