If you’re not active in the “makeup community” you might not have heard about the MAC’s newest collection that was created by beauty bloggers. MAC invited NINE of their favourite bloggers to the lab in Toronto to custom-create their own Eye Shadow or Lipglass.
Now there has been nothing but controversy surrounding this collection since initial reports of it was released. Some don’t understand how or why these bloggers were chosen. Some absolutely love the idea and is happy to see their favorite bloggers apart of it. Then you have some artists that feel professionally disrespected and do not understand why MAC didn’t reach out to real artists to collaborate on a collection instead of creating a collection from a writer’s point of view.
I agree with them all, each side has valid points. Considering how most people haven’t even heard of all the bloggers picked, I too would like to know how they were selected. With that being said, I am excited to see some bloggers who I really respect apart of this collection. I have a lot of respect for professional artists also and I can understand the frustration. I am concerned that colors are the only thing that played a factor and the bloggers didn’t take quality, texture or color coordination in consideration. I am not trying to take anything away from the selected bloggers or bloggers/vloggers in general, but I’m going to need readers to understand there is a big difference between somebody that reviews product vs. someone that professional applies them. The terms “guru” and “artist” are being thrown around too loosely now. Just because someone can do a tutorial or FOTD doesn’t make them an artist, being able to apply makeup to yourself and applying it other people are two very different things. At the end of the day I’m happy for the bloggers chosen; this was an amazing opportunity for them and excited to see the finished products.

Nitro:licious 2046– intense shiny red
I loving the all the lipglasses! I would have liked to see a wider range of colors and not 3 similar corals/reds but I like reds so I’m not that bothered. All My Purple Life is freaking beautiful! I’ll definitely be picking that up and Nitro:licious 2048, the other ones I need to see more swatches. As far as the eye shadows go, so far I only like Jealousy Wakes; I need to see swatches of the rest. Now since this collection will only be available online I’m going to be really careful with what I buy simply because I don’t like buying blindly. Most of the NINE bloggers have posted swatches of their product on their sites, so check it out and tell me what you think!
MAC BLOGGERS’ OBSESSIONS Collection will be Available June 21st through August 2nd at www.maccosmetics.com ONLY (NOT AVAILABLE IN STORES)
