ApHogee Two Step Protein Treatment
So upon my natural hair journey I discovered you need to keep two things balanced for healthy hair, moisture and protein. After a few tests I saw that I needed both. I’ve only started taking my hair seriously in the last 2 months. I’ve been relaxer free for over a year but I would just braid my hair up and throw some weave in it. I wasn’t taking care of it at all.
A few good hair masques got my moisture together but I didn’t quite know what to do for the protein. See when I pulled my wet hair it was stretching like elastic and it would just pop and break off. Plus the shedding and breakage was crazy. Protein creates structure and strength in your hair so we all need that. I thought about the old school homemade mixture my mom used to make with eggs and it worked but it was so messy. I wanted to see if it was a new school product with a little more oomph around.
So I remembered seeing the ApHogee Two Step Protein Treatment various hair forums so I went to Sallys to pick it up. So Sunday (my washing day) I pulled it out. I thought it was going to be simple like the Aphogee 2 Minute Keratin Reconstructor but this required a few more steps. I washed my hair, towel dried it and applied it throughout. It’s liquid so it runs, I had to work it in. There’s also a strong smell but nothing I couldn’t tolerate. After that you’re supposed to either get under a hair dryer or blow dry it. My hair got really hard while it dried and that’s how you know it’s ready. It reminded me of the egg treatment I was talking about, my hair used to get rock hard. So the same feeling gave me comfort. I rinsed it out really good and I noticed my hair started feeling sooooo soft. Like I’ve never felt it like that, especially during washing. It honestly felt like a giant cotton ball.
This is a serious treatment so you can’t regularly use it. Once every 4-6 weeks only. I did notice I had less elasticity and breakage after I used it. It’ll probably take another 1 or 2 treatments before I’m completely balanced.
This is recommended for ethic hair, including relaxed and color treated. I do recommend it, it’s a really good product. As far as I know it’s only available at Sally Beauty (4 oz. $8.79/ 16 oz. $24.99).
